Description
Mahiga is a coffee washing station in Rukira village, Nyeri County, Kenya, established in 1962 and owned by the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society. It processes coffee cherries from 400 cooperative members who grow coffee alongside tea at elevations of 1,700-1,900m. Managed by Daniel Kingori, Mahiga employs five permanent staff and ten seasonal workers. Coffee cherries are pulped, dried, and sorted using a four-disc pulper and raised tables. The station, located at 1,800m, uses fresh water from the nearby Mumwe River, enhancing the coffee's quality.
